In defiance of the symbolic nature of walls as borders, barriers between people and places, artists have used walls in public spaces as ready-made canvases upon which to design, create and spread messages of solidarity, rebellion and a refusal to conform.
The “Viral Mural” exhibition aims to show a series of vibrant and eye-catching large-format murals, and observes the phenomenon of viralisation as a contemporary manifestation. In a modern creative sphere that has evolved and adapted to a technological world, the works become vehicles of claims and opinions that infiltrate social networks, memes, tweets and viral actions.
The exhibition is held at Buenos Aires’ Recoleta Cultural Centre, a thriving hub of visual arts, performance works, workshops and art fairs that showcases work from young artists in the Argentinian capital.
